Why Your Career Isn’t Your Purpose

When it comes to astrology, your career, your purpose, and even your occupation are all looked at as different things.

That’s why career in astrology is about more than just looking at just one placement.

To really make the most out of business astrology, all three distinct things have to be in their element.

Let’s break down the difference between all three.

Vocation in Astrology

So what is your purpose in business astrology? It comes back to your vocation.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, vocation can be looked at as “a summons or strong inclination to a particular state or course of action“.

Your vocation is the thing that drives deep fulfillment. Maybe it’s not the thing you’re doing on a day-to-day basis, or the main thing you do for work. But it is the thing that you get the deepest sense of fulfillment from. Vocation is also the most individualistic element of career astrology.

Out of these three elements of career in astrology, vocation can feel the most abstract to define – which is why so many people struggle with figuring out what it is.

One of the things you can do to uncover your vocation is to return to the thing you enjoyed doing as a child. Whether it’s writing, another artistic venture, or the act of simply helping people – your vocation is often simpler than you think.

According to astrology, the placement that connects to your vocation is your Midheaven.

If you’re looking to connect with your vocation through the Midheaven, don’t make the mistake of assuming you have to match your vocation exactly to your Midheaven sign.

Career in Astrology

Once you have your vocation, the next part of career astrology is understanding what career represents.

Career is defined as “ a chosen pursuit, a profession or occupation“. But I see this as the work that spans over time.

Career is best represented by the 10th House, which is the house of legacy and career as vocation.

Your career isn’t meant to be defined by one project, assignment, or facet of your work. In fact, it should be multifaceted. Your career can span a variety of titles over time, but come together by a shared vision.

Looking at it from an astrological perspective, the 10th House, shows what is the energy over time that is required to master your particular pursuit or profession.

This is especially important if you have your Midheaven in the 10th House, as your vocation will play more of a driving force in your career.

Occupation in Astrology

Occupation is the most straightforward part of career in astrology. Your occupation is simply the thing that you do for daily work.

This is best seen the literal thing you do for money on a day-to-day basis. If you’re full-time in your business, this is your business. But if you’re still working a day job, this could be what your primary work is.

Your occupation plays an important role in stabilizing your nervous system and grounding your skills to something tangible within business. And no other house represents occupation better than the 6th House.

Bringing it All Together in Career Astrology

How does vocation, career, and occupation come together for career in astrology?

It’s important to see these aspects of career astrology not just as disparate parts, but interconnected to build career over time.

Your vocation is the core of your work. That deep fulfillment can help motivate you to keep going, especially at the beginning of your work.

But using your vocation as a guide can lead you to find the occupation that best suits it.

And over time, zooming out from the day-to-day to the legacy you’re building with your work is what creates your career.

So as you can see, your career is not your purpose. In fact, it’s so much more than that.

That’s how you build your career in astrology in a meaningful way.
