The right support can make or break your business.

Knowing the support to have as part of your team is crucial to grow your business in the right direction.

But while most business owners flock to coaches or consultants, working with a strategist may be exactly what you need to fill in the missing gaps and grow your business to the next six figures and beyond.

In this blog post, you’ll learn what a simplicity strategist is and how working with one can benefit your business in the long term.

What’s the difference between a Business Coach, Consultant, and Strategist?

At a certain point in your business, hiring support in the form of a service provider will be on your mind. The most popular experts to turn to at this stage are business coaches, consultants, or strategists.

Each expert has their own strengths and areas of expertise to help you move forward in your business.

But they aren’t all created equal. Knowing how each role is defined and how they help you in your business is the difference between making a great investment and setting yourself back.

Let’s look at each role and define how they help your business.

Coach Definition

In the online space, this is the service provider role that people are the most familiar with are coaches. But what exactly is a coach’s role?

A coach helps you achieve a goal by assisting you in finding your own answers. They support you by asking you thought-provoking questions that help you to extract your own answers rather than them telling you the solution outright. This provides accountability as you move through the steps of moving toward your goal.

Hiring a coach is great if you’re feeling stuck and looking for support to uncover your own process. But it can be challenging if you already know the path you want to move forward with, and aren’t necessarily looking for that path of accountability to get there.

Consultant Definition

If you’re looking for someone who helps you in the development aspect of achieving your goals, a consultant may be a better fit. Consultants provide support through using their expertise to offer guidance towards a goal.

Some consultants even provide hands-on support in a done-for-you or done-with-you capacity. But the main focus is on them using their expertise to clear the path for you and to help you make the decisions that will lead you to achieve your goal.

Strategist Definition

However, maybe you’re looking for support in what possibilities are available that lead you to your goal and sorting out which is right for you. If that’s the case, then working with a strategist may be more aligned for you.

A strategist focuses on the strategies available to achieve a goal. They reference their specific area of expertise or defined niche to develop strategies for clients and work with them to develop them for their specific business.

Working with a strategist includes having a customized plan created for you, which clearly lays out what the goal is, possible tactics, and resource allocation. In short, they take the guesswork on what to do and create space for you to just do them.

As you can see, each role has a different area of expertise depending on what your goal actually is.

Getting clear on the different service provider roles helped me to also specify which best suited me, based on my own experience and expertise.

What is a Simplicity Strategist?

Out of all the options available, I thought about which role best described the work that I do and how I best help clients. And ultimately, I landed on strategist.

Strategist had the Goldilocks effect for me – it felt just right. It’s more specific than “business consultant”, and more encompassing of my particular strengths outside of coaching.

But what exactly does a simplicity strategist do?

A simplicity strategist is a strategist whose expertise focuses on the skill of simplifying businesses. There are a few ways to simplify your business, which include:

  • Choose your business model
  • Refine or create your Signature Offer
  • Choosing your primary marketing channel
  • Defining your selling strategy
  • Eliminating non-essential actions and energy leaks in your business

If any of these speak to you as the areas that are creating the biggest challenge for you in your business, then it may be time for you to hire a strategist.

When is it time to hire a Simplicity Strategist?

When you know that working with a strategist is the right choice for you and your business, choosing the right time can be the next barrier.

But hiring doesn’t have to be as complicated as it may seem.

I share in a podcast episode when the best time is to simplify your business. But ultimately, the best time to hire a Simplicity Strategist is going to be when you’re at the cusp of making these changes.

I find that I work best with six-figure solopreneurs because this area of expertise best fits the stage of business they’re in. I love helping these business owners transition out of the messy middle growth of their business and solidly cross the $100,000 mark into a solidified successful business.

How can we work together?

By now, you should have a good understanding of whether or not hiring a strategist is the right option for you.
