In this Mercury Retrograde 2024 survival guide, I’ll guide you through how to prepare yourself and your business to thrive during Mercury Retrograde.

What Is Mercury Retrograde?

Mercury Retrograde is a time when planets move retrograde or move backward in the sky.

Mercury is the Great Communicator. It rules over communication, commerce, travel, education, and ideas. So when Mercury retrograde, these are the same areas of business that are most likely to be affected.

So as a business owner, Mercury Retrograde is a very big deal that you want to plan accordingly for.

When Will Mercury Retrograde Happen in 2024?

The first thing you need to know about planetary retrograde is that they are a natural part of the health of a planet.

Every planet (besides the Sun and Moon) retrograde at some point. When this happens, it simply means that the planet is moving backward instead of forward.

The good thing about retrograde is that every planet experiences it, that also means that you can plan for it since retrograde happens multiple times a year.

With Mercury specifically, retrograde occurs 2-3 times a year. And each sign that the retrograde occurs within a given year will always be in the same element.

In 2024, Mercury will go retrograde three times, all within fire signs. Here are the Mercury Retrograde dates for 2024 to look out for:

  • April 1-24th
  • August 4-27
  • November 25-December 15

Keep in mind that these are the dates where Mercury goes exactly retrograde. In addition to the retrograde itself, there’s always two weeks prior to the retrograde (called the pre-shadow period) and two weeks after (the post-shadow period) where you may still feel the effects of that retrograde.

With 2024’s Mercury Retrogrades occurring in all fire signs – where Mercury struggles a bit since it prefers to be in Air & Earth signs (hence it ruling over Gemini and Virgo) – there will be big considerations around thinking before speaking.

How Can Your Business Thrive During Mercury Retrograde?

So how exactly do you prepare your business for Mercury Retrograde?

Thankfully, with its predictability, there are a few things you can do so that retrogrades don’t impact too much of your business.

Plan Accordingly

Procrastination is NOT your friend here.

Retrogrades are not the time to start anything new, but to slow down in order to reassess and reevaluate your past actions.

With that in mind, the biggest action step you can take is assess when you are initiating or starting new projects within your business.

If any of these fall during the retrograde period (including the pre and post-shadow), you’ll want to reschedule unit the retrograde is over.

Instead, you’ll want to use this time to take note of what you have done over the last few months within your business – and evaluate whether they are moving you closer to your goals. This is also a great time to reassess whether your actions have been in alignment with your astrological design, and consider taking steps to correct once the retrograde passes.

Overall, you want to consider that timing is a huge component of the retrograde. Do what you can to clear your to-do list before the retrograde gets here and there’s less to worry about.

Back-Up Your Tech

Since Mercury Retrograde is notorious for bringing tech glitches, mishaps, and miscommunications, you’ll want to do what you can to back up all of your work.

Make copies of all of your work. Put those backups in safe spaces – preferably off of your devices.

Emphasize Your Communications

Since Mercury rules over communication, this is also NOT the time to rush through any communications.

Instead, take your time to proofread emails, double-check delivery times, spellcheck names, and use correct pronouns.

Of course, this is also a time to bring more empathy for others who encounter or have these communication mishaps of their own.

A Final Note on Surviving Mercury Retrograde

The biggest piece of advice I can give you on surviving this time is to be patient with yourself and others.

Working with planetary transits is more of an art than a science. Even if you know it’s coming and generally what to expect, that still doesn’t make you immune to experiencing hardships or challenges from it.

Do what you can to prepare, but don’t obsess over it. After all, retrogrades are a natural part of life.

If you want even more support in learning how to work with planetary transits, I want to invite you to apply to work with me inside my 1:1 program, Private Astrologer.
