For 2024, I’m making a major goal to put blogging at the center of my marketing strategy.
In this blog post, I’ll share why I’m making the change and how I’m planning on making it happen.
Why I’m Decentering Social Media Marketing
If you run an online business, then you’re familiar with the pressure to center social media in your marketing. But like everything else, it’s worth questioning if this is truly right for you.
And what I’ve found is that for me, social media works best as a fun extra rather than a primary platform.
I’ve taken a few steps to decenter social media in my marketing, including prioritizing my email list, quitting TikTok, and using Instagram as a mini-website, or Instasite* (which you can check out using my affiliate link).
It’s helped to clear the noise so that I could get clear on what it is I truly wanted out of my marketing – which was to focus on sharing my expertise as a business astrologer and booking out my coaching.
Why Blogging?
Out of all the content types, writing is my top choice. And at the core of my being, I’m a writer.
So when it came to choosing a primary content platform, blogging was a perfect fit.
I’m not alone by a long short – many other business owners are turning to blogging as their primary choice of content creation. But here’s why there’s a major blogging renaissance happening, and what to keep in mind if you’re wondering if it can work for you:
There’s No Algorithm
Algorithm-free platforms are hard to come by these days.
Gone are the days of posting alone guaranteeing clients coming your way. If you’re utilizing popular social media platforms, you’re either paying in attention by posting constantly or literally paying to boost your posts or create ads.
And the reality is, not everyone thrives with these rules.
Blogging allows for an algorithm-free platform for you to create content that puts your expertise in front of people actively looking for it.
Of course, if you’re blogging for business, you do want to make sure that your blog posts are SEO-optimized. But the blog itself doesn’t operate on an algorithm – meaning each post has an equal chance to be seen by search and website visitors.
It’s the Only True Evergreen Platform
Blogging is also the one true evergreen platform.
Some business owners may consider podcasting to be a good alternative to this. But even with podcasting, once an episode is published, it’s there forever (and uneditable) unless you rerecord.
There isn’t that same level of finality with blog posts. Once you publish, you can update a post and keep it for as long as you have your website.
And unlike social media posts, blog posts done right will keep generating traffic, leads, and revenue for you for years to come.
I’ll take that over constantly posting and praying to my Instagram feed any day.
It’s a Content Powerhouse
The beauty of prioritizing blogging is that it makes repurposing to other platforms much simpler.
One blog post can turn into an email, podcast episode, and Pinterest pin – expanding my reach and giving my message new life on other platforms without overextending my capacity.
And if I want to expand into other content types in the future, I can repurpose it from a single blog post as well.
It’s In Alignment With My Human Design
And the most important reason I’m centering on blogging?
Blogging is in alignment with my business.
As a Human Design Reflector, blogging provides me the space to share my observations and wisdom while still honoring my desire as a 2/4 profile to step away and recharge.
With blogging, I can batch create at my own pace and schedule to have content published automatically, even if I’m offline and otherwise available.
Blogging and podcasting are the most in alignment for me, how I’m designed, and how I want my business to thrive. So I’m honoring that call by prioritizing it.
My 2024 Blogging Goal
My goal for 2024 is to make blogging my top visibility platform.
I want my blog to generate leads and visibility to my offers, podcast, and my email list.
In doing so, I want my website to become a centralized hub for people to learn more about how we can work together – rather than an afterthought space after social media.
I’m so excited that there are so many business owners making this shift as well.
